Creating A Realistic PayBack Plan

It has already been established that a quick loan should only be taken if you can realistically pay off the loan at the required time. What then needs to be done is creating a realistic payback plan.

A payback plan is a concrete and thought out strategy to pay back a loan in a certain amount of time. Before a loan is even applied for, a payback plan should be put in place.

It would be a huge mistake on your part to simply believe that you can pay back a loan. Regardless of your income, a payback plan should be put down on paper.

The first step is to determine just how much you should take in form of a loan. Most people already have a concrete number in their minds, but this number should be re-examined. If you want to take a loan of N150,000 for a party, that figure should be broken down. How much of the money will be spent on a venue? How much will be spent on drinks and food? Every item should be detailed. Ask for a quote from the venue owners as well as food vendors and do not make any assumptions. This will ensure that you are borrowing an amount that is actually necessary and not overborrowing to the point that you will be unable to pay back.

The next thing to itemise is your income for the duration of the loan. Start by calculating your current income and removing your current expenditure. Unless you are expecting some funds from another source during the loan period, this is the amount of money that you will have to pay back the loan.

After you have done this, compare your leftover income with the total loan amount. How long will it take you to gather the money for the loan repayment and will the money be ready in time for the repayment date? If so, you’re in the clear. If not, you might want to readjust your expenses or the loan amount in question.

One step that is often overlooked by loan taker is how the money for repayment will be kept aside. A not so uncommon mistake is the loan taker putting aside the money for the loan repayment than spending it on non-emergencies and being in a tight spot when repayment time comes. Make sure that the money for the repayment of the loan is properly kept aside and not spent unless it is an absolute emergency.

With all these steps, you should be on your way to creating a realistic payback plan and eventually paying off your loan with ease.
